(Burn rate Testing)

Purpose: Used for Burn Rate testing of the propellant

Precuations:

• Make sure that the propellant strand loaded in the holder & timer connections are made as per the experimental setup.
• Use Liner or Inhibitors to coat over the propellant strand to avoid lateral surface burning.
• Use Nicrome wire for igniter coil and soldering lead wires for timer 1&2.
• Before testing find out the Igniter coil cutting voltage. While testing use the same or higher voltage to cut the Igniter coil, then only the other timers will start.
• Use always specified nitrogen cylinder key & Pressure regulators to regulate the pressure. Don’t try for different key/ spanners.
• Before filling the inert gas ensure that the exhaust valve is closed tightly.
• Don’t increase the test chamber pressure suddenly. First fill with 20 bar pressure and then gradually increase up to desired level.
• Better keep away the people to the safe distance at the time of testing.
• Once the testing process is over the gas inside the test chamber may be toxic. It should be exhausted to outside the laboratory and free to the atmosphere.

Ignitor/Timer Unit Precautions:

• Make sure that the Igniter and Timer cables are connected with the respective points in the Igniter/Timer unit.
• There should not be any fluctuations in input voltage which may later lead to damage in the electronic timer and the function will fail.
• For every cycle of operation, the dimmer stat is to be brought to zero position, reset button is to be pressed again and start button is to be pressed to start the experiment.
